What is California Proposition 65 and does it apply to Giminutra products?

Proposition 65 is a California law that requires businesses to let customers know if a product contains any amount of certain chemicals on the state's list. The list includes over 900 chemicals, and many of them are found in everyday foods, drinks, and supplements at very small levels.

Some supplement ingredients come from plants that grow in soil. Soil naturally contains trace amounts of minerals like lead and cadmium. These trace amounts are normal and are found in common foods like spinach, chocolate, rice, and sweet potatoes. The amounts are very small and fall within federal safety limits set by the FDA.

If you are shipping to a California address and your order includes a product that contains a chemical on the Prop 65 list, you will see a notice at checkout or on the product label. This notice does not mean the product is unsafe. It means California requires us to tell you the chemical is present, even at levels commonly found in everyday foods.

Why do some supplements carry a Prop 65 warning?

Many supplement ingredients are made from plants, minerals, and other materials found in nature. These ingredients can contain trace amounts of naturally occurring substances that appear on the Prop 65 list. For example, lead is found in soil around the world, and plants absorb small amounts of it as they grow. This means many common foods and supplements contain trace levels of lead. California's safety thresholds are much stricter than federal FDA limits. A product can be fully compliant with all FDA safety standards and still require a Prop 65 warning in California.

Does this mean the product is dangerous?

No. A Prop 65 warning does not mean a product is unsafe or that it violates any federal product safety standard. It means the product contains a listed chemical above California's reporting threshold, which is set very conservatively. Many safe, everyday foods would also require this warning under the same standard.
